Emergency Assistance to Malawi in Response to the Cyclone

The Japan International Cooperation Agency will provide emergency relief goods as below in response to the cyclone disaster, upon the request from the Government of the Republic of Malawi.

1. Disaster situation
Cyclone, which occurred on March 13, has been causing serious human and property damage. According to DoDMA, the damage situation as of March 15 was as follows:
Deaths [231]
Injured [719]
Affected [88,312]
Missing [41]
Damaged houses [19,676]

2. Goods supplied
A. Emergency relief goods (from the JICA warehouse in Dubai)

- Portable jerry cans
- Water purifiers
- Plastic sheets
- Tents


B. Shipping schedule
The goods will be transported from the JICA warehouse in Dubai to Malawi (Lilongwe) on the next available flight.
