Structure and Performance

JICA's Training and Dialogue Programs fall into the two general groups of "Projects for Country Focused Training and Dialogue" and "Training and Dialogue Programs". Projects for Country Focused Training and Dialogue are held in response to a specific request from a developing country while Training and Dialogue Programs are first proposed by Japan and held if the developing country makes a corresponding request. More than five hundred Training and Dialogue Programs are held each year focusing on a wide range of topics. Many organizations in Japan that have operations related to programs are enlisted to assist. This mode is a characteristic of Japan's official development assistance (ODA) rarely seen with other donor countries or international agencies.

In Japanese Fiscal Year 2010, over 10 thousand people from some 150 nations came to Japan to participate in Training and Dialogue Programs and the other forms.
