Environmental and Social Considerations Review

As you may be aware, the Overseas Economic Cooperation Operations of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) was merged with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), creating a "new JICA" in October 2008. In order to establish new JICA's "Guidelines for Environmental and Social Considerations　(Guidelines) and "Objection Procedures on the Guidelines for Environmental and Social Considerations" (Objection Procedures), JBIC and JICA jointly constituted a committee which consists of sixteen specialists representing academia, NGOs, the private sector and related ministries of the Government of Japan in February 2008.

Given the importance of this issue, we hope that you will take this opportunity to express your views on the proposed Guidelines and Objection Procedures which reflect opinions of the committee.
