Background and Objective
The existing water supply system in Faisalabad is not enough to fulfill the demand of clean drinking water for people in Faisalabad. These projects will contribute to improving the water supply system and to increase the capacity of drinking water supply in Faisalabad. The integrated plan for the covering the whole component was initially formulated through the basic design study by JICA from 2002 to 2003, and was agreed by both governments in 2004. It was comprised of a comprehensive system of water source, collector main, transmission and distribution facilities for augmenting city's water supply by 91,000m3/day. The work for phase I of the project for improving the existing distributions network of the city was successfully completed in March 2006. Construction works of new pumping stations and transmission and collector main started in Nov 2009 under the Project Phase II and the civil work for constructing new water intake facilities started in Feb 2011 under "the project for extension of water supply system".
