Message from the Chief Representative

I am HOSHI Mitsutaka, Chief Representative of JICA Palestine Office. It is my pleasure that you reached our page.

Japan and Palestine have enjoyed and developed a unique and strong relation. In 2006, then Prime Minister Mr. Koizumi announced the "Corridor for Peace and Prosperity", a mid to long-term initiative with the aim of promoting socio-economic development in the Jordan Valley and promoting an economic independence of Palestine. Since then, Japan has provided various supports for stability of people's lives, building administrative capacity and promoting sustainable economic growth.

Following the visits of President Mahmoud Abbas to Japan in February 2016, and the former Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Abe to Palestine in May 2018, this bilateral relation has witnessed great achievements in the fields of education, health, tourism, industrial development, local governance, water, and improvement of Palestinian refugee camps.

In Jericho, JICA continuously cooperates the Jericho Agro-Industrial Park (JAIP) to promote the export of Palestinian products and create job opportunities.

Moreover, JICA cooperates for capacity building of the Palestinian Authority through training program in Japan and third countries as well as the framework of CEAPAD (Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development).

Also in February 2023, we just started the new private sector investment finance, by introducing a unique equity-like instrument called a perpetual subordinated loan with conversion (Additional Tier 1 Investment) in "Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Support Project," the first of this kind for JICA.

We will continue our cooperation towards inclusive and sustainable development, and human security of the Palestinian people.
