On September 28, JICA President Tanaka Akihiko held talks with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița of the Republic of Moldova, in Tokyo.

In his opening remarks, President Tanaka, referring to his visit to Moldova in May 2022, said that he was impressed by the country's efforts to accept refugees from Ukraine after the attack by Russia. President Tanaka also stated that the international community, including Japan, needs to stand with and support Moldova.

In response, Prime Minister Gavrilița expressed her gratitude for JICA's long-standing cooperation with Moldova. She also stated that she would like for JICA to continue to be an important partner in addressing the challenges that the country is currently facing, such as inflation and soaring energy prices.

The two then exchanged views on various reforms toward Moldova's accession to the European Union (EU), as well as policies to promote business investment and exports.
