On August 16, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Republic of Uganda in Kampala, to provide grant aid of up to 2.548 billion yen for the Project for the Improvement of Traffic Control in Kampala City.

The objective of the Project is to ensure smooth and stable traffic flow in the capital city of Uganda, Kampala, through the construction of the Traffic Control Center with related equipment, and the improvement and signalization of intersections. It is expected that this project will contribute to the standard of living and the sustainable development of the Kampala metropolitan area and Uganda's economic growth.

For the detailed design of the project, JICA has already signed a grant agreement to provide grant aid of up to 93 million yen in February 2019.
