Signing of Grant Agreement with Zambia: Contributing to improved access to health services in Copperbelt, through expanded hospital functions

On July 14, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Republic of Zambia in Lusaka, to provide grant aid of up to 2.654 billion yen for the Project for Upgrading Health Centres to District Hospitals in Copperbelt Province.

The project aims to improve access to health services in Copperbelt Province through upgrading two Health Centres to District Hospitals that provide basic health service, thereby contributing to improvement of the health status of the people in Copperbelt Province. This project is expected to contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goal 3.

②The maintenance contract for medical equipment for 3 years after delivery of the equipment

Target region, facilities Mushili and Chamboli District Hospitals in Copperbelt Province
Specific project details (provisional) ① Facility improvements/equipment procurement
[Facilities] Facility improvement/expansion at two Health Centres (Chambori, Kitwe District, Mushili, Ndola District)
[Equipment] X-ray diagnostic equipment, ultrasonic diagnostic equipment, operating table, anesthesia machine with artificial respirator, high-pressure steam sterilizer, hand washing machine, mobile ventilators, electrocardiographs, defibrillators, incubators, etc.

② Consulting services
Detailed design work, bidding assistance, construction/procurement supervision, and (as guidance in managing the facilities) technical guidance on equipment maintenance.
