Coalition for African Rice Development (CARD)
Mano River Union Minister of Agriculture Meeting in Monrovia
JICA, in partnership with AGRA (Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa), launched an initiative “Coalition for African Rice Development, CARD” on the occasion of the 4th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) held in Yokohama, Japan in May 2008.
The goal of CARD is to double rice production in Sub-Sahara Africa from present 14 million tons/year to 28 million tons/year by 2018.
Liberia is one of the targeted countries for CARD activities. JICA intends to support Liberia to increase the rice production in a sub-regional manner such as promoting experience-sharing among Mano River Union member countries. The project is aiming at building the capacity of health administration in Kambia District with the expectation that the district will be able to analyze health problems and find solutions to them.
