"Overcoming Current and Preventing Future Nosocomial Outbreaks During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Lessons Learned at Three Hospitals in Japan," a paper written by Komasawa Makiko, a research fellow at the JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development, and her colleagues was published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health in September 2021.

This paper studied three hospitals in Japan where large-scale nosocomial COVID-19 outbreaks occurred and extracted hints on how to prevent nosocomial infection outbreaks. The paper highlighted key strategies as follows: detecting the virus as soon as it enters the hospital, carefully managing staff-to-staff transmission, and strictly practicing basic infection prevention control measures with the intensive support of outside experts under coordination of public health centers.
