Training Program on Development of Sustainable Aquaculture

Background and Objective

Trainees are in observation at a fish farm.

Two JICA projects were implemented between April 1997 and January 2007 at the Central Fisheries Research Institute in Trabzon in order to develop seed production and rearing techniques of flatfish species, and sustain seed production of Black Sea turbot. Later on, to establish Black Sea Turbot culture model and extension system, “Flatfish Culture Project” was started in July 2007 at the Mediterranean Fisheries Research, Production and Training Institute. Objective of the training program is to provide participants knowledge and experiences gained through the above-mentioned joint projects to support the invited countries for sustainable development of aquaculture.

Project Description

The purpose of the Training Program is to provide the participants an opportunity to improve their knowledge and techniques in the field of sustainable development of aquaculture. Training program is implemented toward 6 countries (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) in cooperation with the General Directorate of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA).
