Peace (Japan) Medical Services and JICA to build canal, waterhead in Behsud, Nangarhar.

Nangarhar Governor and Peace (Japan) Medical Services agreed on the minutes of meeting for the new PMS-JICA initiative, “the Project for Rehabilitation of Irrigation System in Meeran, Behsud district” on 20th September. The Ministry of Energy and Water, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and livestock and JICA have singed this agreement beforehand. The project objectives are 1) to improve agriculture productivity and food self-sufficiency by rehabilitating and upgrading water intake and irrigation system, and 2) to improve livelihood of residents in the target project area and facilitate settlement of Afghan refugees and internally displaced population. It is envisaged that approximately 40,000 residents shall be benefitted and 1,100 hectare rehabilitated. The project period is from October 2014 up to September 2016.
