JICA and Survey of Bangladesh jointly organized international seminar on National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) for Bangladesh on 1st and 2nd June, 2016. International experiences shared by keynote speakers such as Japan, Indonesia and India made participants understand what NSDI is and they discussed about the way forward to establishment of Bangladeshi NSDI.

JICA has been supporting Survey of Bangladesh (SOB) since 1991 to realize better mapping system for whole country. SOB is now about to complete digital mapping of the whole Bangladesh and to proceed to the next stage where Government of Bangladesh creates one platform, what we call NSDI. Through this integrated platform, valuable mapping information as well as all geospatial information will be stored by different agencies, so that any users can access these information for socio-economic development of Bangladesh such as urban/ rural planning, disaster management, sophisticated public-service delivery, Infrastructures planning and active creation of new businesses.

Honorable Prime Minister Madam Sheikh Hasina also attended the inauguration of this seminar as chief guest and she acknowledged the importance of NSDI and announced to form a national committee to develop the Bangladeshi NSDI. In addition to this Honorable Prime minister also urged to develop NSDI act. / Policy/ Rules which will accelerate the establishment of NSDI. JICA is pleased to continue its support for the realization of Bangladeshi NSDI to achieve Digital Bangladesh by 2021.
