Ministry of Science and Information & Communication Technology (MOSICT) and JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) organized ITEE (Information Technology Engineers Examination) contest in Bangladesh.
30th October, 239 university students in Dhaka and 30 company employees who work in the ICT field challenged in this event at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel (Dhaka). Hon'ble State Minister Architect Yeafes Osman, State MoSICT has graced the occasion as Chief Guest. And H. E. Mr. Tamotsu Shinotsuka, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh has also attended at the event respectively as Guest of Honor and as Special Guest. The program was chaired by Dr. Takao Toda, Resident Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office.
ITEE is a national examination for ICT professionals in Japan. Over years, it has solidified its position, reliability and drawn a large number of candidates (500-600 thousand people) in Japan. Due to the academic rigor and acceptance as a top notch certification, it has spread beyond the border of Japan to other Asian countries. ITEE has been introduced in 12 Asian countries till now. JICA believes this nation wide ITEE exam will be able to add great value to the present government's slogan of "Digital Bangladesh". And this will produce large pool of quality ICT professionals and firmly contribute to the development of ICT sector in Bangladesh as well as in international job market.
As the first step for introduction of this Japanese national exam to Bangladesh, MOSTICT, BCC (Bangladesh Computer Council) and JICA Volunteers initiated the ITEE contest today, and this contest mainly aimed to recognize the current status of IT professional in Bangladesh.
The passing mark of the exam is 60% or more points, and the ratio of the successful candidates was 11.52%, 31 persons in the contest. Considering about 10% in the pass rate of the same examination currently held in Japan, it turned out that ICT skills of Bangladesh is equal to those of Japan.
The prize for the highest scorer in the contest is "1 week Study Tour in Japan", presented to Mr. Shahriar Rouf, BUET University.
2nd prize is "Laptop PC, SONY VAIO", presented to Mr. Md. Mahbubul Hasan, BUET University.
2nd prize is "LCD TV, Panasonic VIERA", presented to Mr. Hossain Md. Niaze Motaher, AUST University.
2th prize is "Digital Camera, PENTAX Optio", presented to Mr. Muntasir Mashuq, BUET University.
5th prize is "Inkjet Printer, Canon iP3680", presented to Mr. Md. Saidul Islam, UIU University.
6th prize is "iPod Shuffle 2G", presented to Mr. Shujon Naha , BUET University.
MOSICT, BCC and JICA would like to organize this contest regularly and to expand it to all the divisions for the promotion of ITEE and further human resource development of ICT sector in Bangladesh. For Human resource capacity development JICA is supporting not only in ICT sector but also contributing in making Digital Map through Technical Coopeation Proejct BDMAP(Bangladesh Digital Mapping Assistance Project) which plays important role to build strong national infrastructure, disaster prevention plan and GPS (global Positioning System) including making foundation for building up "Digital Bangladesh" and establish "E-government".
