A group of forty (40) participants including thirty one (31) Porashava Mayors and nine (9) LGD officials will visit Japan from May 24 to June o2, 2014. The programs aims at enhancing understanding of the Japanese local governance system, local fiscal policy and system in Japan, learning good practices of service delivery and environment conservation policy by Japanese local towns and utilize the experience for strengthening pourashava governance in bangladesh.
Participants shall have opportunities to discuss administrative vision and to learn different roles of the central government and local governments in Japan, how they cooperate, decentralization policy and so on. The participants will visit Ube City of Yamaguchi Prefecture to see industries and good practices of service delivery which is well-known for its environment conservation program.
JICA is extending its support for comprehensive development of the local government institutions including city corporation, pourashava, upazila parishad and union parishad through governance reform, infrastructure development and improving service delivery to the residents.
