"Ownership and commitment are the keys for success in Total Quality Management"
The best six government hospitals will receive the awards for their achievements to have successfully introduced 5S-CQI-TQM approach to their hospitals and the 5S implementation manual will be launched on 2nd June at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), organized by DGHS jointly supported by UNICEF and JICA.
The 5S-CQI-TQM activity under the partnership between DGHS and JICA started in February 2011 at Narsingdi District Hospital. After 4 years of its introduction today, 5S is introduced and practiced by 98 hospitals in Bangladesh. 5S is a management approach that focuses on improving the working environment and forms the foundation for Continuous Quality Improvement and Total Quality Management. 5S does not require much resources but demands the ownership and the commitment by the hospital management and the staff. JICA's technical cooperation project Safe Motherhood Promotion Project (SMPP) has been playing a vital role in supporting the efforts by the Government of Bangladesh to increase the quality of hospitals services.
The 5S manual that will be launched includes many concrete ideas of how 5S can be promoted and implemented at the hospitals. The manual will motivate the practicing hospitals to continue the efforts of improving the working environment as well as gives a starting point for all the remaining hospitals that have not joined the partnership yet.
Mr Mohammad Nasim, Honorable Minister of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has kindly consented to grace the occasion as Chief Guest and Mr. Mikio Hataeda, Chief Representative, JICA, Deputy Country Representative of UNICEF, Director General of Director General of Family Planning(DGFP), Director General of Health Economics Unit, will attend as special guest while Director General of Director General of Health Services(DGHS) will preside the award ceremony.
