Dhaka, 25 January 2016:
One Year One Project (OYOP) has been launched to deliver "quality public services" in Bangladesh. At the occasion of the National Kaizen Convention held on 25 January 2016, the commitment of the Nation Building Departments (NBDs) for the OYOP initiative was symbolically confirmed as common efforts among generations. From now on, the upazila-level officers of the NBDs will implement at least one small improvement (One Project) every year (One Year) continually to improve public services nation-wide.
Small but significant improvements are referred as "Kaizen" (Kai means change, and Zen means better, the two words together mean "continuous improvement" in Japanese) in Total Quality Management. The convention was a great opportunity to share impressive Kaizen cases of the upazila-level officers. Each case demonstrated motivation and continued efforts of the field-level officers for improvement. Through the Kaizen application and under the nationwide Kaizen initiative, they had changed themselves and made changes.
The convention was organized by the JICA Technical Assistance project for Improving Public Services through Total Quality Management (IPS-TQM).
Begum Ismat Ara Sadique MP, Hon'ble State Minister, Ministry of Public Administration was the Chief Guest in the convention. Mr. Takeshi Matsunaga, Minister, Embassy of Japan, and Mr. Mikio Hataeda, Chief Representative, JICA Bangladesh Office were the Special Guests. Mr. A.K.M. Abdul Awal Mazumder, Rector of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) chaired the function. The welcome speech was made by Md. Zaydul Hoque Molla, Member, Directing Staff and Project Director of the IPS-TQM project, BPATC. Secretaries of line Ministries and Departmental Heads of the NBDs also attended with other senior officials from the government of Bangladesh and JICA.
