Chief Representative's Speech

June 11, 2014

Tsuneishi Alliance Solutions Opening Ceremony

His Excellency Dr. Mashiur Rahman, Honorable Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister ,

His Excellency Mr. Shiro Sadoshima, Honorable Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh,

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Assalam alaikum and good evening.

I am really delighted to attend the opening ceremony of Tsuneishi Alliance Solutions Limited and would like to cordially congratulate on the launching of another, new business collaboration between Japanese and Bangladeshi entrepreneurs.

Indeed, the launching is at the quite right time when Prime Ministers Mr. Abe and Ms. Hasina just committed to further strengthening bilateral cooperation through the "Japan-Bangladesh Comprehensive Partnership" during their summit just two weeks ago.

At that occasion, Prime Minister Abe announced to provide 600 billion Yen, mainly in ODA loans, in 4 to 5 years. Just as significantly, Prime Minister Abe also proposed an initiative of "Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth Belt", or BIG-B, as a means to guide partnership activities.

Since this BIG-B is fairly related to the prospective business of Tsuneishi Alliance Solutions Limited, I would like to take this opportunity to explain a bit about this initiative.

Bangladesh is located with embracing the Bay of Bengal from the sea point of view, and in-between South Asia and South-East Asia from the land point, which is advantageous for it to play a node and hub role in regional as well as inter-regional matters.

This also suggests the Bangladesh's renewed focus on "Look East" policy to exploit the vibrant economic growth from Pacific to Indian Ocean. The BIG-B is to take full advantage of this trend. It foresees Bangladesh transcending its national borders to become a hub of the regional economy, so that she may reshape herself as a sparkling trading nation deeply incorporated into inter-regional and global value chains.

The initiative of "Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth Belt" or BIG-B is a grand design that aims to promote industrial agglomeration along the Dhaka-Chittagong-Cox's Bazar belt area and beyond, encompassing development of infrastructure of energy and transport as well as promotion of industry and trade.

The tipping point for carrying out BIG-B will be the Matarbari Island between Chittagong City and Cox's Bazar. In fact, JICA and the Government of Bangladesh will sign next week on the Loan Agreement for the flagship project of BIG-B, that is "Matarbari Ultra Super Critical Coal-Fired Power Project" which consists of 1200MW world-most-efficient power plant and the long-awaited-first-ever deep sea port with 18m depth. With this project as the start, the Matarbari Island and its environs are expected to be transformed into an integrated industrial and trading hub, as well as a central energy base.

I understand the main business of Tsuneishi Alliance Solutions Limited is to purchase and sale of construction materials such as coal ash and cement which are quite relevant to the Matarbari Coal-Fired Power Project and other future projects under BIG-B. I hope Tsuneishi Alliance Solutions Limited will take part in BIG-B and contribute to industrial development of Bangladesh.

Dhonnobad. Thank you.
