Mr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Secretary, Prime Minister's Office,
Mr. Monowar Islam, Secretary of Power Division,
Mr. Nazimuddin Chowdhury, Secretary of Energy & Mineral Resources Division,
Mr. A. R. Khan, Chairman of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
Assalam alaikum and very good morning.
It is indeed a great pleasure for me to attend the last Steering Committee and Stakeholders' Meeting on Power Sector Master Plan, or PSMP, 2016.
As we all know, the primary energy for Bangladesh is now at a turning point. We have to diversify the energy while meeting the surging demand of energy and power. Hence now is the time for Bangladesh to update the Power & Energy Sector Master Plan by examining the structural shift the sector is undergoing. The fundamental question is: What kind of future we are drawing? How do we realize optimal energy mix and supply additional 45,000MW in twenty-five years? Ultimately, how can we assist Bangladesh in the area of power and energy to become a developed country by 2041?
Today, we are here to share the vision and pathway to the promising future. For almost two years, we have discussed and come up with answers to those questions I've just mentioned to be incorporated into PSMP 2016 which is now at the final stage. I believe the master plan has been drafted in such a way that is duly ambitious as well as practically executable. I hereby would like to thank all of honorable guests for your unwavering support and would like to congratulate the Power Division, the Energy & Mineral Resources Division and all the agencies concerned for your great achievement up to this point.
For all that, I should hasten to remind what really matter is from now on. In order to make PSMP 2016 materialized, we need more in-depth discussions, consistent executions and close monitoring of progress by the Divisions concerned in coordination with many stakeholders.
As you saw, the summary presentation gave a brief account of a roadmap toward 2041 for each topic. The details of accounts, such as basic analysis of data, method of planning and policy proposal, will be presented in the next session. Though it is called Technical Session, we know ‘god is in the detail.' And, today's session is the final meeting of this sort. Therefore I would highly appreciate it if as many of you as possible would remain here till afternoon and actively participate in discussions. I myself, of course, will stay till the end of the session.
Shobaike Onek Donnobad. Thank you very much.
