Bilateral Annual Consultation 2017

The 12th annual consultation on economic cooperation between Bhutan and Japan was held on 23 August at Thimphu. During the consultative meeting, the Bhutanese side proposed two (2) projects for consideration under technical cooperation and four (four) projects under grant aid scheme in the field of agriculture, infrastructure, education and health as follows:

Technical Cooperation Project

  1. Project for Promotion of Technology Education and Diffusion through Digital Fabrication Laboratory
  2. Project for River bank stabilization in Gyalpoishing, Mongar

Grant Aid:

  1. Improvement of Machinery and Equipment for Maintenance of Rural Agricultural Road
  2. Project for Improvement of Farm Machinery for Hiring Services of Tillage (Phase 2)
  3. Strengthening of Blood Transfusion System, Laboratory, Radio-Imaging and Infection Control Services
  4. Restoration of Bridge Infrastructures Damaged by Flash Floods

The Japanese delegation updated the ongoing projects and generally remained positive on the outcome of the proposals.

The officials from Gross National Happiness also presented the outline of the 12th Five year Plan (2018-2023) which showed a resource gap of Nu. 44 billion.

The Annual bilateral consultation is an important avenue to review and exchange views on the ongoing and future bilateral cooperation program.

The Japanese delegation was led by Mr. Kenko SONE, Minister (Economic & Development), Embassy of Japan in New Delhi and the Bhutanese team led by Ambassador Kesang Wangdi, Director General, Department of Bilateral Affairs, MoFA.
