On 6th March 2018, more than 130 students from Sherubtse College attended a day long seminar hosted by JICA Bhutan Office together with National Land Commission on Geo-Spatial Information: Application and Possibilities, at Sherubtse College in Kanglung. During his opening address at the seminar, Chief Representative Mr. Koji Yamada highlighted the importance and the role of Geo-Spatial Information towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and the importance of data as the backbone of implementation.
The seminar had over 12 different exciting presentations on the status of GIS in Bhutan and applications from the National Land Commission, Ministry of Works and Human Settlement, JICA Volunteers, PASCO and aslo from the students and faculty of Sherubtse College. The presence of the JICA volunteers as the presenters, was made to mark the 30th Anniversary of JOCV programme in Bhutan
The final seminar in "GIS: Applications and Possibilities " series was held at the Jigme Namgyel Engineering College at Dewathang on 8 March. The seminar was attended by over 100 students and faculty members of the college. The presenters from the National Land Commission, Ministry of Works and Human Settlement, JICA Volunteers, PASCO and the students and the faculty of the college. At the end of the day, there was an interactive question and answer session where the students inquired about the real time applications of GIS to the relevant presenters.
