ABE participant completes his Masters study

Hello, my name is Letebele Bright Sosome. I have just recently graduated with a Masters in Information Systems from Kobe Institute of Computing under the ABE scholarship. I was motivated to study in Japan through the appreciation of the Integrated Service Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T) broadcasting that was adopted in Botswana back in 2015.

During my study at Kobe Institute of Computing, I focused on acquiring computer programming skills and code writing. From a TV broadcast perspective, I explored how new broadcasting technologies driven by machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) are used in the workflow to increase productivity and efficiency of creative opportunities during program production (content creation). Thereafter, I made a web prototype that can be used by the audience to gather information in an accurate and novel way (media mix strategy).

Additionally, I had the opportunity to do summer internship at Japan Space Systems where I acquired practical skills in remote sensing & GIS, sustainable data utilization, and open-source software, just to mention a few. As for post-graduate internship, I joined DIVE INTO CODE company to further enhance my skills (full-stack Software Developer). In brief, the ABE scholarship presented opportunities to connect with technology experts and industry players, subsequently creating an environment that allows for long-term relations with Japanese companies interested in expanding their business operations into Botswana.

For recreation and relaxation, I often visited spots that have a magnificent natural setting, learnt about Japanese culture and lifestyles through interactions with local people. They are indeed respectful and friendly people. Therefore, I strongly recommend studying in Japan or visiting for people from my country Botswana or anyone.

In line with the constant improvement of the core Internet infrastructure in Botswana, I would like to provide solutions to social challenges using Internet of Things (IoT) technology to improve access to information.

I wish to extend my deepest appreciation to JICA for providing such a program aimed at human resource development. Lastly, I give thanks to family and friends for their support throughout my stay in Japan. Ke a leboga!
