[Long Term Trainee's Interview] My Remote Learning Experience

Photo

My name is Mayibongwe Ramatebele, currently studying Masters in Economics at Waseda University. I started my studies through remote learning in September 2020 in my home in Botswana. It has been a great journey with learning opportunities and challenges along the way.

First and for most, remote learning has helped me upgrade and adapt quickly to technological advancement brought about by COVID-19 restrictions.

All my courses were conducted online through real time zoom while others were on demand. This type of learning has advanced my knowledge in computer skills as l did not know much about software's like Zoom, Microsoft meetings, and Moodle. I would not have gained such technological skills attending classes physically. Furthermore, this platform allowed for recording of class lectures which helped me to revisit the same lecture at any time for revision. This was an added advantage for further understanding of the course which could not have been possible if we attended physical classes. As much as studying from home was very comfortable, the 7hour time difference was one of my main challenges as l had to attend real time zoom classes from 2am to 330am for both semesters and even write exams at the same time with cameras on.

I would highly recommend remote learning during this pandemic era as it lessens the chances of one contracting and spreading COVID-19 virus by staying at home.
