JICA Botswana welcomes Eight Japanese Volunteers post COVID-19

On 20 October 2022, JICA received the second batch of Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) to Botswana. This follows the five volunteers who already arrived in the country during the course of the year. JICA resumed its volunteer service in March after a two-year halt for the JOCV programme due to COVID-19 global pandemic. The Eight volunteers will undergo basic Setswana Language Training in preparation for working with their respective host organisations across various government departments, sports institutions and NGOs.

JICA carries out the JOCV programme in Botswana and other developing countries all over the world by dispatching Japanese citizens who volunteer with high aspirations to cooperate in the economic and social development of developing countries through human resource capacity building. Since 1992 to date, JICA has deployed 420 JOCVs' including the current 8 volunteers in Botswana in areas such as Community Development, Environmental Education, Quality Management and Productivity (KAIZEN), Waste Management, Graphic Design, Vocational Training, Primary school education, ICT etc. This year marks 30 years of JOCV dispatch in Botswana.
