Signing on Record of Discussions of the technical cooperation:With the ‘Project on Integrated SME Promotion with the Enhancement of KAIZEN,' JICA supports promotion of SMEs in Cameroon

On December 15, 2017, the Record of Discussion of the Project on Integrated SME Promotion with the Enhancement of KAIZEN was signed between Ministry of Economy Planning and Regional Development, Ministry of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Social Economy and Handicrafts, and JICA.

This project aims to strengthen the system of providing Business Development Services (BDS) and contribute promoting of Small and Mid-sized Enterprises (SMEs) through supporting policy development of promotion of SMEs, training consultants who provide BDS and establishing the system of BDS.

In Cameroon, almost 99% of officially registered enterprises are categorized as SMEs and they take significant roles on both economy and employment. On the other hand, 57% of SMEs discontinues in the second year from starting their businesses. In order to improve economic and employment growth, it is important to enhance sustainability of SMEs.

Under these circumstances, JICA supported Government of Cameroon to implement Project on Quality and Productivity Improvement (KAIZEN) for SMEs from September 2015 to September 2017. With this signed project, JICA will further support with Government of Cameroon with training consultants and rollout of BDS to the provincial areas.
