JICA and ANATL reached to conclusion of a preparatory survey of a Project for Improvement of Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport and had a signing on Minutes of Discussions on a Draft Report of the survey witnessed by H.E. Mr. José Agustinho da Silva, the Minister of Transport and Communications. A preparatory mission came Timor-Leste from 2 to 9 February to explain the draft report, which consists of development plan, design and cost estimation. The mission had a series of discussions with MTC, ANATL and related authorities, had stakeholder meetings, and explained the plan to H.E. Mr. Taur Matan Ruak, the Prime Minister and the National Parliament members.
The proposed project covers i) International Passenger Terminal Building (with equipment): Floor Area 6,700 sq.m, ii) International Aircraft Parking Apron, iii) Taxiway (to connect runway and apron), iv) Access Road (from the city to the airport), v) Control Tower (with equipment), and vi) Electrical Power Sub-station. Since it was designed not to suspend current airport operation, the existing terminal can be used during construction.
From now, both governments will start for a process of G-G agreement of a Grant Aid Project to be expected to be signed May.
