On Wednesday May 6th, 2015, in the community of San Miguel de Quera, located in the Riobamba canton of the province of Chimborazo, the "Project for Sustainable Rural Integral Development of the Province of Chimborazo" which is implemented by the Decentralized Autonomous Government of the Province of Chimborazo (GADPCH), the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Aquaculture (MAGAP), the Ministry of Environment (MAE), the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) and the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC); carried out one of its main outreach activities, called "Field Day".
The "Field Day" has as its main objective, to expose the potential of each of the communities in the areas of: i) Participatory Development, ii) Production, iii) Marketing and iv) Tourism, the same areas that are focused on improve the quality of life of the members of the Project.
This event was attended by officials and representatives of partner institutions and international organizations like the Organization of the United Nations for Food and Agriculture (FAO) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), who along with members of that community and other neighboring, had the opportunity to learn about the cultivation of three certified varieties of potatoes; seed selection and seed bank system; agro-mechanization (use of motor-pump growers and seasonal fumigation); and community organization.
During the opening remarks of the event, Ms. Tránsito Lluco, Vice-prefect of the province of Chimborazo, highlighted the positive impact that this project is generating in the quality of life of the inhabitants of the 30 intervened communities; while urging the beneficiaries to maintain their motivation and leadership in achieving their own development.
