On the 30th of September, 2017, The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) held a press conference to announce the results of Egypt Census 2017 in the presences of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
Among the attendance list also were: Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, a number of ministers, governors, and high officials from the Egyptian Government, in addition to representatives of regional and international organizations including JICA Egypt Office.
During the conference, Mr. Abu Bakr Al-Gendy, the head of CAPMAS, announced that the Egyptian population reached 104.2 million, of which 94.8 million are living in the country and 9.4 million are abroad. In his presentation also, the head of CAPMAS praised the efforts exerted from different organizations to support the census, and on top of which the support received from Japan.
The 2017 Census is Egypt's first E-census to fully depend on modern technology to provide timely, accurate and reliable results. Within the technical cooperation project for "Developing the System of Statistical Quality at CAPMAS", JICA has supported the census, by providing 450 tablets for quality control operations, and providing technical assistance through the dispatch of Japanese experts to CAPMAS.
