JICA President Kitaoka Holds Talks With Egyptian President

JICA President Shinichi Kitaoka held talks Feb. 29 in Tokyo with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. It was the first visit to Japan by an Egyptian president since 1999.

The meeting began with Mr. Kitaoka talking about JICA's assistance to Egypt. In response, Mr. Sisi expressed gratitude for JICA's efforts and mentioned cooperation in the electric power and transport fields as specific positive examples.

Mr. Kitaoka said Egypt plays an important role in regional stability and development in various aspects. In response, Mr. Sisi said he respects Japan’s culture and national characteristics. He explained that because he perceives that Japan’s behavior patterns would be compatible with Islamic models, he would like to learn from Japan’s experiences in the field of education and its traditions, and he would like to expand Japanese-style education in Egypt.

In conclusion, Mr. Kitaoka said JICA would like to continuously support efforts toward the stabilization of Egypt. Mr. Sisi responded that he looks forward to further cooperation from JICA.
