JICA to Send Emergency Supplies to Flood-Stricken Solomon Islands

JICA will provide emergency supplies to the Solomon Islands in response to damage caused by heavy rainstorm on April 3-4.

In the capital city of Honiara, the heavy rainstorm caused river flooding with extensive damage and approximately the half of its population has been affected.

The victims as of now include 23 people killed, 52,000 affected, 10, 000 evacuated and many injured.

Following a request from the government of Solomon Islands, the Japan International Cooperation Agency will provide emergency supplies including 3,000 blankets, 1,150 jerry cans and 20 water purifiers with a total value of approximately US$130,000.

The supplies will be delivered to Honiara on the earliest available flight.
