JICA will provide emergency supplies to the Republic of Cabo Verde in response to damage caused by a volcanic eruption on Nov. 23 after receiving a request from the Government of Cabo Verde.
A torrent of lava from the volcano in Fogo Island has caused significant damage.
According to the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination team, 1,080 people have been evacuated and 2,109 more may be evacuated as of Dec. 11. Also, 100 buildings and 450 hectares of land have been damaged.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency will provide emergency supplies including 20 generators with cord reels, with a total value of approximately US$30,000.
The supplies will be delivered to Praia using the earliest available flight.
