Dispatch of Japan Disaster Relief Team and Advance Party in Response to AirAsia Plane Clash

In response to a request from the Government of Indonesia following the Dec. 28 disappearance of AirAsia Flight 8501, the Government of Japan decided to dispatch a Japan Disaster Relief team consisting of two escort ships currently sailing in Southeast Asian waters and three helicopters.

Based on the above decision, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) dispatched an advance team to Jakarta on Dec. 31 consisting of five members from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense and JICA.

Details of the team's activities and period of dispatch will be coordinated with Indonesia side based on the progress of the search and rescue activities.
