The Japan International Cooperation Agency will provide emergency supplies to the Republic of Malawi in response to damage caused by flooding after receiving a request from the Government of Malawi.

Continuous heavy rains since early January have caused flooding, which has been causing extensive human and material damage in affected areas.

According to the Government of Malawi, 54 people have been killed, 153 people are missing and 121,000 people have been evacuated.

JICA will deliver 180 tents, 900 blankets, 40 tarpaulins and 900 sleeping pads, with a total value of approximately US$160,000.

The supplies will be delivered to Lilongwe using the earliest available flight.
