The Japan International Cooperation Agency will provide emergency supplies to the Republic of Mozambique in response to damage caused by flooding after receiving a request from the Government of Mozambique.
Continuous heavy rains since mid-January have caused flooding, which in turn has caused extensive human and material damage in affected areas.
According to JICA’s office in Mozambique, as of Jan. 22, 86 people had been killed, 137,614 people affected, 50,481 people evacuated, 10,060 houses completely destroyed and 2,266 houses affected.
JICA will deliver 120 tents and 90 tarpaulins, with a total value of approximately US$120,000.
The supplies will be delivered using the earliest available flight.
