Emergency Assistance to Sri Lanka in Response to the Damages caused by the Heavy Rainfall

The Japan International Cooperation Agency will provide emergency relief goods as below in response to the request from the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka regarding the damages caused by the heavy rainfall.

1. Disaster situation
The floods and landslides caused by the heavy rainfall in Southern and Western areas of the country, which happened since May 24, have caused serious human and property damage. According to the Disaster Management Center, the damage situation as of May 28 was as follows:
Deaths 151
Injured 95
Affected 438,000(approximately)

Missing 111
Collapsed houses 252
Damaged houses 1,786

2. Goods supplied
A. Emergency relief goods (from the JICA Singapore warehouse)
Plastic sheets
Sleeping pads
Water tank
Portable jerry cans
Water purifiers

B. Shipping schedule
The goods will be transported from the JICA warehouse in Singapore to Colombo on the next available flight.
