JICA Executive Senior Vice President Kazuhiko Koshikawa met with International Fund for Agricultural Development President Gilbert Houngbo at JICA Headquarters in Tokyo on July 27 this year.
Mr. Koshikawa began the meeting by congratulating Mr. Houngbo on assuming the post of president of IFAD in April. He also voiced support for Mr. Houngbo’s aspiration to revitalize rural areas by assisting smallholders. Mr. Houngbo said he would strengthen the partnership between IFAD and JICA to advance the goals announced at the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI).
The two leaders agreed to cooperate on agriculture and rural development in Africa, centering their efforts on the Coalition for African Rice Development (CARD), the Smallholder Horticulture Empowerment and Promotion (SHEP) program and the Initiative for Food and Nutrition Security in Africa (IFNA) in particular.
JICA will further strengthen its partnership with IFAD to contribute even further to agriculture and rural development not just in Africa, but throughout the world.
