At the auditorium of the National Polytechnic School (EPN) located in Quito, the capital city of Ecuador, the 5th General Assembly of FELACBEJA(Federación Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Asociaciones de ExBecarios de Japón) and the workshop for Disaster Risk Reduction field were held from January 22 to January 24, 2018, with the attendance of Alexandra Ocles, Secretary of Risk Management of the Republic of Ecuador (SGR) and Jaime Calderon, Rector of EPN.

In this assembly, approximately 70 participants were gathered including 48 FELACBEJA members from 18 countries out of 21 in the region, who are mainly belonging to the disaster risk reduction organization in their appointed country. DRR-related officials in Ecuador, and JICA experts also joined to have positive discussions in order to improve future FELACBEJA's activities. Eiji Kawahigashi who is in charge of "Project on Capacity Development for Disaster Risk Management in Central America "BOSAI"(Phase 2)" and Hisato Uematsu who is in charge of "Disaster Risk Reduction Training Program for Latin America and the Caribbean (KIZUNA Project)" made presentations to share their project`s experiences in Latin Americas.

Gathering many of ex-participants who have participated DRR KCCP in Japan from each country in Latin America region and sharing information about examples of their activities will make it possible to update knowledge among them and build up the strength of their network. By fostering these partnerships among each country, it will lead to the establishment of mutual cooperation system in the event of a disaster as well as daily efforts against DRR.

Based on this network, JICA will further strengthen partnership among DRR-related organizations in Latin America region especially when international meetings or conferences on DRR are convened hereafter, and that will expect to bear fruit as outcome to reduce disaster damages.
