JICA President Shinichi Kitaoka held talks with UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta H. Fore at JICA Headquarters in Tokyo on Oct. 9.
JICA and UNICEF are mutually important partners who have cooperated for many years. Ms. Fore told Mr. Kitaoka that UNICEF, in addition to helping school-age and small children, is promoting a new initiative called Generation Unlimited that gives high-quality educational and employment opportunities to young people. She said that she wants UNICEF to advance further its partnership with JICA, which has a track record of cooperation targeting this generation, including secondary and higher education and teacher training.
Mr. Kitaoka mentioned that JICA will pursue a stronger strategic partnership with UNICEF, in the areas including maternal and child health and education and job training for young people, toward the achievement of the organizations' common goals such as promoting human security and contributing toward achieving SDGs.
JICA will cooperate with UNICEF on education for youth, multi-sectoral approach for improving nutrition, and maternal and child health, including the maternal and child health handbook and countermeasures to infectious diseases such as polio.
