Overseas Economic Cooperation Operation

Japan Bank for International Cooperation Activities in April 2000

In April 2000, activities of Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) are as follows.

1. COMMITMENTS:

  • (1) International Financial Operations of JBIC
    LOANS
    14 loans, worth a total of 84.5 billion yen. Detailed data are as follows.
    (a) Export Loans (supplier credits, buyer credits, and bank-to-bank loans for export of goods and services from Japan)
    Six commitments, worth 39.1 billion yen, including a project to export construction equipment to Peru.
    (b) Import Loans (for import of goods, natural resources and services to Japan)
    Two commitments, worth 1.3 billion yen, including a project to import refrigerated containers from U.S.A.
    (c) Overseas Investment Loans (for direct investments overseas by Japanese companies)
    Five commitments, worth 38.6 billion yen, including a project for exploitation of gas field in Malaysia.
    (d) Untied Loans (not tied to the procurement of goods and services from Japan)
    One commitment, worth 5.5 billion yen, including a loan to financial and privatization reform in Bulgaria.
    GUARANTEES
    None.
    EQUITY PARTICIPATIONS
    None.
  • (2) Overseas Economic Cooperation Operations of JBIC
    (a) ODA Loans (Loans to governments, government agencies and other eligible organizations of developing countries for their economic and social development and economic stability)
    Three commitments, worth 39.5 billion yen, including loans to the Philippines.
    (b) Private-Sector Investment Finance (Loans to and/or equity investments in corporations undertaking development projects in developing countries)
    None.
    (c) Special Assistance Facility: SAF
    None.

2. LOAN DISBURSEMENTS,REPAYMENTS AND BALANCES OUTSTANDING

  • (1) International Financial Operations of JBIC
    Disbursement during this period reached 32.2 billion yen while collections amounted to145.7 billion yen. The loans and equity participations outstanding were worth 11,106.3 billion yen at the end of the month. The balance of guarantees outstanding was 344.4 billion yen.
  • (2) Overseas Economic Cooperation Operations
    Disbursement during this period reached 27.2 billion yen (ODA loans: 27.2 billion yen) while collection amounted to 23.6 billion yen (ODA loans:23.6 billion yen). The loans and equity participations outstanding were worth10,462.3 billion yen (ODA loans:10,275.2 billion yen, Private-Sector Investment Finance:187.1 billion yen) at the end of the month.
