Overseas Economic Cooperation Operation

Japan Bank for International Cooperation Activities in June 2000

In June 2000, Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) committed 17 loans and guarantees, worth a total of 233.7 billion yen1. Detail data are as follows:

1. COMMITMENTS:

  • (1) International Financial Operations of JBIC
    LOANS
    15 loans, worth a total of 209.2 billion yen. Detailed data are as follows:
    (a) Export Loans (supplier credits, buyer credits, and bank-to-bank loans for export of goods and services from Japan)
    Five commitments, worth 7.5 billion yen, including a project to export a power plant to Mexico.
    (b) Import Loans (for import of goods, natural resources and services to Japan)
    Three commitments, worth 13.1 billion yen, a project to import an aircraft from U.S.A.
    (c) Overseas Investment Loans (for direct investments overseas by Japanese companies)
    Seven commitments, worth 188.7 billion yen, including a project for exploitation of oil field in Brazil.
    (d) Untied Loans (not tied to the procurement of goods and services from Japan)
    None.
    GUARANTEES
    One commitment, worth 22.0 billion yen, including a guarantee for Private Placement Bonds by Philippines National Oil Company - Energy Development Corporation.
    EQUITY PARTICIPATIONS
    None.
  • (2) Overseas Economic Cooperation Operations of JBIC
    (a) ODA Loans (Loans to governments, government agencies and other eligible organizations of developing countries for their economic and social development and economic stability)
    One commitment, worth 2.5 billion yen to Morocco.
    (b) Private-Sector Investment Finance (Loans to and/or equity investments in corporations undertaking development projects in developing countries)
    None.
    (c) Special Assistance Facility: SAF
    One contract was concluded.

2. LOAN DISBURSEMENTS, REPAYMENTS AND BALANCES OUTSTANDING

In June 2000, JBIC disbursed 121.6 billion yen and collected 212.5 billion yen. The loans and equity participations outstanding were worth 21,211.7 billion yen and the balance of guarantees outstanding was 367.0 billion yen at the end of the month. Detail data are as follows:

  • (1) International Financial Operations of JBIC
    Disbursement during this period reached 72.9 billion yen while collections amounted to183.5 billion yen. The loans and equity participations outstanding were worth 10,717.7 billion yen at the end of the month. The balance of guarantees outstanding was 367.0 billion yen.
  • (2) Overseas Economic Cooperation Operations
    Disbursement during this period reached 48.7 billion yen (ODA loans: 48.4 billion yen, Private-Sector Investment Finance: 0.4 billion yen) while collection amounted to 29.0 billion yen (ODA loans: 28.3 billion yen, Private-Sector Investment Finance: 0.7 billion yen). The loans and equity participations outstanding were worth 10,494.0 billion yen (ODA loans: 10,307.1 billion yen, Private-Sector Investment Finance: 186.9 billion yen) at the end of the month.
