Overseas Economic Cooperation Operation

Japan Bank for International Cooperation Activities in August 2000

In August 2000, Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) committed 8 loans, worth a total of 56.2 billion yen1. Detail data are as follows:

1. COMMITMENTS:

  • (1) International Financial Operations of JBIC
    LOANS
    4 loans, worth a total of 16.2 billion yen. Detailed data are as follows:
    (a) Export Loans (supplier credits, buyer credits, and bank-to-bank loans for export of goods and services from Japan)
    Two commitments, worth a total of 6.9 billion yen, including a project to export to Malaysia materials and equipment to build a wafer fabrication plant for semiconductors.
    (b) Import Loans (for import of goods, natural resources and services to Japan)
    One commitment, worth 8.8 billion yen, regarding a project to import an aircraft from U.S.A.
    (c) Overseas Investment Loans (for direct investments overseas by Japanese companies)
    One commitment, worth 0.5 billion yen, regarding a project for production and sales of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in China.
    (d) Untied Loans (not tied to the procurement of goods and services from Japan)
    None.
    GUARANTEES
    None.
    EQUITY PARTICIPATIONS
    None.
  • (2) Overseas Economic Cooperation Operations of JBIC
    (a) ODA Loans (Loans to governments, government agencies and other eligible organizations of developing countries for their economic and social development and economic stability)
    Four commitments, worth a total of 40.1 billion yen, including loans to the Philippines
    (b) Private-Sector Investment Finance (Loans to and/or equity investments in corporations undertaking development projects in developing countries)
    None.
    (c) Special Assistance Facility: SAF
    Two contracts were concluded.

2. LOAN DISBURSEMENTS, REPAYMENTS AND BALANCES OUTSTANDING

In August 2000, JBIC disbursed 155.0 billion yen and collected 116.8 billion yen. The loans and equity participations outstanding were worth 21,003.2 billion yen and the balance of guarantees outstanding was 371.6 billion yen at the end of the month. Detailed data are as follows:

  • (1)International Financial Operations of JBIC
    Disbursement during this period reached 100.5 billion yen while collection amounted to 95.0 billion yen. The loans and equity participations outstanding were worth 10,446.1 billion yen at the end of the month. The balance of guarantees outstanding was 371.6 billion yen.
  • (2)Overseas Economic Cooperation Operations of JBIC
    Disbursement during this period reached 54.5 billion yen (ODA loans: 54.5 billion yen, Private-Sector Investment Finance: 0.1 billion yen) while collection amounted to 21.9 billion yen (ODA loans: 21.4 billion yen, Private-Sector Investment Finance: 0.4 billion yen). The loans and equity participations outstanding were worth 10,557.2 billion yen (ODA loans: 10,370.9 billion yen, Private-Sector Investment Finance: 186.3 billion yen) at the end of the month.
