Overseas Economic Cooperation Operation

Japan Bank for International Cooperation Activities in September 2000

In September 2000, Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) committed 42 loans and guarantees, worth a total of 232.6 billion yen1. Detail data are as follows:

1. COMMITMENTS:

  • (1)International Financial Operations of JBIC
    LOANS
    32 loans, worth a total of 71.3 billion yen. Detailed data are as follows:
    (a)Export Loans (supplier credits, buyer credits, and bank-to-bank loans for export of goods and services from Japan)
    Two commitments, worth a total of 14.3 billion yen, including a project to export materials and equipment to build a power plant in Mexico.
    (b)Import Loans (for import of goods, natural resources and services to Japan)
    Two commitments, worth a total of 1.7 billion yen, including a project to import aircrafts equipment from the U.S.A.
    (c)Overseas Investment Loans (for direct investments overseas by Japanese companies)
    Twenty-seven commitments, worth a total of 7.0 billion yen, including a project for the production and sales of aromatics in Malaysia.
    (d)Untied Loans (not tied to the procurement of goods and services from Japan)
    One commitment, worth 48.3 billion yen, for a project to modernize an oil refinery in Venezuela.
    GUARANTEES:
    One guarantee, worth 20.7 billion yen, for a project to modernize an oil refinery in Venezuela.
    EQUITY PARTICIPATIONS
    None.
  • (2)Overseas Economic Cooperation Operations of JBIC
    (a)ODA Loans (Loans to governments, government agencies and other eligible organizations of developing countries for their economic and social development and economic stability)
    Nine commitments, worth a total of 140.5 billion yen, including loans to Thailand.
    (b)Private-Sector Investment Finance (Loans to and/or equity investments in corporations undertaking development projects in developing countries)
    None.
    (c)Special Assistance Facility: SAF
    Two contracts were concluded. (The detail are referred to the attachment.)

2. LOAN DISBURSEMENTS, REPAYMENTS AND BALANCES OUTSTANDING

In September 2000, JBIC disbursed 134.1 billion yen and collected 156.6 billion yen. The loans and equity participations outstanding were worth a total of 21,001.1 billion yen and the balance of guarantees outstanding was 372.0 billion yen at the end of the month. Detailed data are as follows:

  • (1)International Financial Operations of JBIC
    Disbursement during this period reached 89.4 billion yen while collection amounted to 130.9 billion yen. The loans and equity participations outstanding were worth a total of 10,409.1 billion yen at the end of the month. The balance of guarantees outstanding was 372.0 billion yen.
  • (2)Overseas Economic Cooperation Operations of JBIC
    Disbursement during this period reached 44.8 billion yen (ODA loans: 44.8 billion yen) while collection amounted to 25.6 billion yen (ODA loans: 25.6 billion yen). The loans and equity participations outstanding were worth a total of 10,592.0 billion yen (ODA loans: 10,405.7 billion yen, Private-Sector Investment Finance: 186.2 billion yen) at the end of the month.
