Overseas Economic Cooperation Operation

Japan Bank for International Cooperation Activities in February 2001

In February 2001, Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) committed nineteen loans, worth a total of 50.2 billion yen1. Detailed data are as follows:

1. COMMITMENTS:

  • (1) International Financial Operations of JBIC
    LOANS and EQUITY PARTICIPATIONS:
    Sixteen loans, worth a total of 25.6 billion yen. Detailed data are as follows:
    (a) Export Loans (supplier credits, buyer credits, and bank-to-bank loans for export of goods and services from Japan)
    Seven commitments, worth a total of 8.7 billion yen, including a loan for a project to export medical equipment to Brazil.
    (b) Import Loans (for import of goods, natural resources and services to Japan)
    One commitment, worth 1.7 billion yen, for a project to import an aircraft from U.S.A.
    (c) Overseas Investment Loans (for direct investments overseas by Japanese companies)
    Eight commitments, worth a total of 15.3 billion yen, including a loan for investment for the production and sales of LNG in Malaysia.
    (d) Untied Loans (not tied to the procurement of goods and services from Japan)
    None.
    (e) Equity Participation
    None.
    GUARANTEES
    None.
  • (2) Overseas Economic Cooperation Operations of JBIC
    (a) ODA Loans (Loans to governments, government agencies and other eligible organizations of developing countries for their economic and social development and economic stability) Three commitments, worth a total of 24.5 billion yen, including the Meknes-Fes Track Doubling Project in Morocco.
    (b) Private-Sector Investment Finance (Loans to and/or equity investments in corporations undertaking development projects in developing countries)
    None.
    (c) Special Assistance Facility: SAF
    Three contracts were concluded. (Please see the Attachment.)

2. LOAN DISBURSEMENTS, REPAYMENTS AND BALANCES OUTSTANDING

In February 2001, JBIC disbursed 112.7 billion yen and collected 122.7 billion yen. The loans and equity participations outstanding were worth a total of 21,046.1 billion yen and the balance of guarantees outstanding was 397.0 billion yen at the end of the month. Detailed data are as follows:

  • (1)International Financial Operations of JBICbr>Disbursement during this period reached 54.4 billion yen while collection amounted to 101.8 billion yen. The loans and equity participations outstanding were worth a total of 10,284.4 billion yen at the end of the month. The balance of guarantees outstanding was 397.0 billion yen.
  • (2)Overseas Economic Cooperation Operations of JBIC
    Disbursement during this period reached 58.3 billion yen (ODA loans: 58.1 billion yen, Private-Sector Investment Finance: 0.2 billion yen) while collection amounted to 20.9 billion yen (ODA loans: 20.5 billion yen, Private-Sector Investment Finance: 0.4 billion yen). The loans and equity participations outstanding were worth a total of 10,761.7 billion yen (ODA loans: 10,575.7 billion yen, Private-Sector Investment Finance: 186.1 billion yen) at the end of the month.
