President Ogata Receives "20 Years of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan" from the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan

On January 10, 2012, President Sadako Ogata received the 20th Anniversary Commemorative Award from the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. As representative of the government, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Japan Akylbek Kamaldinov visited JICA headquarters where the award ceremony was held.

"20 Years of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan" is given to organizations and individuals who have contributed to exchanges between the Republic of Kazakhstan and other countries in various fields, and the award may be conferred on Kazakhstanis and foreigners alike.

To date, JICA has provided approximately 1.5 billion dollars in assistance to Kazakhstan, taking into account both technical assistance such as the creation of the Japan Center and the master plan for Astana, and loan assistance such as the construction of the Irtysh River Bridge, Astana International Airport, and water supply and sewer works in Astana. Japan has already provided trainings to more than 1,000 people of Kazakhstan in Japan, who now engage in nation building using the technology and knowledge they learned in Japan. This award is in recognition of the achievements that JICA has brought about in the cooperation that Japan has provided to Kazakhstan and represents the gratitude of the Government of Kazakhstan.
