Signing of Grant Agreement with Solomon:Contributing to improved convenience and safety at Honiara International Airport

On June 15, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Solomon Islands inHoniara, to provide grant aid of up to 4.364 billion yen forthe Project for the Improvement of the Honiara International Airport.

Under this project, the facilities and equipment at Honiara International Airport will be improved, strengthening airport safety of airport operations, accommodating future growth in air traffic demand and reducing the vulnerability of the airport facilities to natural disasters, thereby contributing to the socioeconomic development of the Solomon Islands.

Rehabilitation of the existing taxiway and apron, expansion of the international/domestic apron, construction of a new connecting taxiway installation of new airfield lights (for the taxiways, apron and other facilities), renovation of the existing passenger terminal building, construction of an international departure passenger terminal, and construction of a flood protection embankment
Provision of an X-ray scanner and other equipment
