On June 25, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Republic of the Philippines inManila, to provide grant aid of up to 1.278 billion yen forthe Project for Improving Flood Forecasting and Warning System for Cagayan de Oro River Basin.
The project will mitigate damage caused by floods in the Cagayan de Oro River Basin in Mindanao through the procurement of necessary equipment and the improvement of a flood forecasting and warning system, thereby contributing to sustainable development in the Region.

Combined rainfall and water level gauge stations (seven), ground rainfall gauge stations (six), X-band radar stations (two), equipment for dedicated radio communication links between each station and the Cagayan de Oro River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (CDO-RBFFWC) (one set), equipment for a dedicated data communication link between the CDO-RBFFWC and the Cagayan de Oro City Disaster Risk Reduction Department (CDO-CDRRMD) (one set), a repeater station, monitoring displays (two, one each at the CDO-RBFFWC and the CDO-CDRRMD)

Detailed design work, bidding assistance, procurement supervision, (as guidance in managing the facilities) technical assistance in the operation and maintenance of the measurement equipment, data management systems and other equipment
