On August 31, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Islamabad, to provide grant aid of up to 2.042 billion yen forthe Project for Installation of Weather Surveillance Radar in Multan City in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
This project will install a meteorological radar system in Multan, Pakistan, with the aim of improving the capacity to observe meteorological phenomena that can trigger disasters, and improving the accuracy of weather and flooding information and warnings. It is expected that the project will reduce the damage caused by the floods and other natural disasters that frequently strike in Pakistan.
