On December 2, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Republic of Paraguay in Asuncion to provide grant aid of up to 2.7 billion yen for the Project for Procurement of Dredging Equipment for Paraguay River.
The project will provide a dredger, support vessels and other equipment to remove sediment accumulated in the Paraguay River Basin and maintain a navigation route. It is expected that these efforts will improve the dredging capacity on the Paraguay River, ensure a year-round navigation route and promote infrastructure development within South America.
