Signing of Japanese ODA Loan Agreements with India: Contributing to economic growth and social development in India toward sustainable development

On January 18, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed loan agreements with the Government of India in Delhi to provide Japanese ODA loans of up to a total of 55.074 billion yen for two projects.

A summary of the two Japanese ODA projects provided by the loan agreements is as follows:
(1) Program for Japan-India Cooperative Actions towards Sustainable Development Goals in India (loan amount: 15 billion yen)
(2) Project for the Construction of Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (Phase 1) (loan amount: 40.074 billion yen)

Details for the projects are provided below.

(1) Program for Japan-India Cooperative Actions towards Sustainable Development Goals in India
(a) Objective and Summary
The objective of the program is to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 in India by supporting efforts to strengthen the policy framework and implementation mechanism for the SDGs.

(c) Planned Implementation Schedule
1. Completion of project: June 2020 –with completion of the loan disbursement
2. Issuing of letters of invitation for consulting services (including detailed design work): No hiring of consultants is planned for the program.
3. Tender announcement of initial procurement package for international competitive bidding on project construction:
International competitive bidding for construction is not planned for the program.

(2) Project for the Construction of Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (Phase 1)
(a) Objective and Summary
The objectives of the project are to meet the rapidly increasing transportation needs in the Chennai metropolitan area and contribute to economic development in the urban region by constructing a peripheral ring road in Chennai in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
