On February 13, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Palestinian Authority inRamallah to provide grant aid of up to 1.785 billion yen for the Project for the Improvement of Collection and Transport System for Solid Waste Management.
The project aims to improve waste collection services in of 14 Joint Service Councils (JSCs)composed of local government units in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip by providing waste collection vehicles and heavy machinery for landfill management. This support will contribute to the improvement of the living environment of residential areas and the conservation of the natural environment.
Since 2005, JICA has been providing technical cooperation in the waste management sector to support capacity development in JSCs and for other improvements.
